Cleveland Browns 1991 Topps Stadium Club Football Cards
(Complete Set)
Except for four years in the mid-1960s Topps had monopolized the football card market since they purchased the Bowman card company in 1956. Because Topps had no real competition the football cards they issued from the late 60s through the 1980s were bland and generic in design. When Score, Upper Deck, and other companies entered the trading card market in the late 80s the cards they issued had much better photography and designs than the Topps cards. This forced Topps to change their previously unimaginative designs into something much more aesthetic. Their inaugural 1991 Stadium Club set contained beautiful borderless color action photos and an embossed-foil stadium club logo on the front of the cards. The backs of the cards had a photo of each players original Topps rookie card along with a Sporting News analysis of the player's strengths and history. The Browns set included rookie cards of Eric Turner and Ralph Tamm. |
