Cleveland Browns 1991 Pacific Football Cards
(Complete Set)
In 1991 the Pacific Trading Cards Company issued its first set of football cards. Pacific, located in the state of Washington, was one of twelve companies that the NFL licensed to produce football cards that year. Pacific issued their last set of cards in 2002. In 2004 the Donruss Playoff Company acquired Pacific. I like the design of the front of the inaugural 1991 set of cards. The left side has the name of the player in large letters. This left room for a full-length game-action photo of each player on the right side. The backs of the cards were not so well designed. The player's information itself was good and included another photo but it was printed at a 60 degree angle. The Browns Team set designated only two cards, Thane Gash and Ed King, as rookie cards even though Pacific gives the draft information on the backs of the other rookie players Rob Burnett, Michael Jackson, and James Jones. There were two Eric Metcalf cards released by Pacific in 1991. The first one seen below had an error on the back which said "Terry" is the son of former NFL running back Terry Metcalf. Pacific issued a second corrected card changing the first "Terry" to "Eric". They also misspelled Gregg Rakcozy's first name leaving off one "g" on the front and back of his card. |
