The Bowman Gum Company issued their first set of NFL football cards in 1948. They continued selling football cards through 1955 after which time they were acquired by the Topps Chewing Gum Company in 1956. In 1991 Topps issued a new Bowman series of football cards. The photo on the front of the 1991 cards shows the player in game action. The backs of these cards are very similar to the backs of the last football series Bowman issued in 1955. Rookie cards in the 1991 set include safety Eric Turner, defensive end Rob Burnett, and offensive guard Ed King.
