Cleveland Browns 2008 Topps Football Cards
(Complete Set)

Cleveland Browns 2007 Season

  • After the Browns opening 34-7 blowout loss to the Steelers they trade quarterback Charlie Frye to the Seattle Seahawks and name Derek Anderson the starter. The next game the Browns defeat the Bengals 51-45 with Anderson throwing for 328 yards, 5 touchdowns, and achieving a 121.0 Quarterback Rating. Braylon Edwards catches eight passes and two touchdowns, and Jamal Lewis rushes for 216 yards
  • Josh Cribbs returns a kickoff 100 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 31-28 loss. On the season Cribbs returns one punt for a touchdown and two kickoffs for touchdowns
  • In the tenth game of the season the Browns face the Ravens at Baltimore. Brodney Pool intercepts a Kyle Boller pass and returns it 100 yards for a TD. With 3 seconds to go in the game and the Ravens ahead 30-27 Phil Dawson attempts a 51-yard field goal. The kick appears to hit the crossbar and bounce backwards and one of the two end zone officials rules the kick no good. The Ravens head to their locker room. Replay shows the ball going through the uprights, hitting the support post, and then bouncing back through the uprights. The kick is declared good and the Ravens have to return to the field and the Baltimore fans are unhappy. Phil Dawson kicks a 31-yard field goal in OT to win the game
  • In the fourteenth game of the season the Browns play at Buffalo in blizzard conditions with 30 mph winds and blinding snow. Jamal Lewis rushes for 163 yards on 33 carries. Phil Dawson kicks a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter. He said he aimed outside the goal posts to let the wind blow it back inside the uprights. In the second quarter the Buffalo center snaps the ball over the head of the punter who kicks it out of the end zone for a safety. Phil Dawson kicks a 49-yard field goal which ,like the Ravens game, went through the uprights and bounced back through after hitting the support post. The final score 8-0 had not been seen in the NFL since the Chicago Cardinals beat the Minneapolis Red Jackets 8-0 in 1929
  • The 9-5 Browns can make the playoffs as a Wildcard team with a victory over the Bengals in the fifteenth game of the season. Derek Anderson who had some great games during the season and also some not-so-great games was ineffective in this game. As I watch the game on television I can't understand why Romeo Crennel doesn't replace Anderson with Brady Quinn. Anderson throws four interceptions and the Browns lose 19-14. The Browns needed the Tennessee Titans to lose the final game of the regular season to the Indinapolis Colts to attain the Wildcard berth. The Colts rested their starters and lost to the Titans and the Browns were out of the playoffs
  • The Browns win seven games at home losing only the opener to the Steelers. This is their best home record since entering the NFL in 1950
  • The Browns, who had only one player go to the Pro Bowl since the 1999 season, send five in 2007 including Braylon Edwards, Joshua Cribbs, Kellen Winslow Jr., Derek Anderson, rookie left tackle Joe Thomas, and long snapper Ryan Pontbriand
  • Braylon Edwards breaks Webster Slaughter's 1989 team record of 1,236 yards receiving by catching 80 passes for 1,289 yards. Edwards also breaks Gary Collins' 1963 of 13 touchdown receptions by catching 16 touchdowns
  • Josh Cribbs leads the NFL in kickoff return yardage with 1,809 yards which is the second most yards gained on kickoff returns in NFL history behind MarTay Jenkins' 2,186 yards for the Arizona Cardinals in 2000
  • Josh Cribbs leads the NFL with 30.7 yards average per kickoff return
  • Josh Cribbs leads the NFL with 2,312 All-Purpose yards
  • Phil Dawson's 120 points scored ties Leroy Kelly's 1968 season for second place in team history behind Jim Brown's 126 points scored on 21 touchdowns in 1965
  • Jamal Lewis rushes for 1,304 yards which is the most yards gained by any Browns runner since Jim Brown
  • Derek Anderson throws 29 touchdown passes, one short of Brian Sipe's team record of 30 touchdown passes during the Kardiac Kids 1980 season
  • Even though both teams had a 10-6 record Pittsburgh finished in first place in the AFC North over Cleveland based on a head-to-head sweep
  • Brady Quinn and Joe Thomas' rookie season
