- The Browns sign veterans linebacker Pepper Johnson, defensive tackle Jerry Ball, 1987 NFL #1 overall draft pick quarterback Vinny Testaverde, and took Michigan Center Steve Everitt with their first pick in the 1993 draft
- The Browns start the season with Bernie Kosar at quarterback and a 27-14 victory over the Bengals and a 23-13 win over last year's NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers In the third game with the Browns losing 13-0 with 12:52 left in the game against the Raiders and Bernie Kosar having thrown 3 interceptions, Coach Belichick replaces Kosar with Vinny Testaverde. He engineers a comeback that culminates in an Eric Metcalf 5-yard touchdown run with two seconds left in the game and the Browns win 16-13. After the game Belichick states that Kosar is still the Browns starting quarterback. The next game the Browns are losing 6-0 at halftime. Again, Belichick replaces Kosar with Testaverde to start the 3rd quarter. This time the Browns lose 23-10 to the Colts. The Miami Dolphins were next and once again Testaverde replaces Kosar in the 4th quarter and once again they lose 24-14. Beginning with the next game against the Bengals Belichick makes the decision to make Testaverde the starter. The Browns beat the Bengals 28-14 and it seems Kosar tenure with the Browns is coming to an end. The Browns, now 4-2 for the season, play the Steelers. Testaverde separates his shoulder in the 4th quarter and Kosar runs onto the field to thunderous applause. Eric Metcalf returns a punt 75 yards with 2:05 to go for the game-winning touchdown. The Browns enter the bye week with a 5-2 record and in first place in the division. On November 7th in the game after the bye week Kosar starts but the Denver Broncos win 29-14 (with nine seconds left and the offense in the huddle Kosar draws a 38 yard pass play to wide receiver Michael Jackson in the dirt which results in the Browns last touchdown. On November 8, 1993 the Cleveland Browns release Bernie Kosar. Browns fans are outraged. The next game is a disaster against the Seahawks with the Browns turning the ball over seven times in a 22-5 loss. Some Browns players are angry also. Fans yell at Belichick as he is running off the field "You've ruined the team. We need a coach!" Ironically, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman gets hurt in their November 7th victory over the New York Giants. The Cowboys pick up Kosar and after three days practice leads the Cowboys to a 20-15 victory over the Phoenix Cardinals the same day the Seahawks beat the Browns. Aikman returns and the Cowboys go on win the Super Bowl. Conversely, the Browns never recover and lose six of their last eight games. For Browns fans such as myself, the Kosar era is second only to the Paul Brown/Otto Graham era
- On October 10, 1993 Najee Mustafaa returns an interception against Dan Marino and the Dolphins for a 97-yard touchdown
- Clay Matthews' last season with the Browns after 16 years of being their premier linebacker and the Browns all-time sacks leader with 62 sacks
- Kevin Mack retires after the 1993 season as the Browns' fourth all-time rusher with 5,123 yards. He finishes behind Jim Brown (12,312 yards), Leroy Kelly (7,274 yards), and Mike Pruitt (6,540 yards) and the era of great Browns running backs ends for nearly two decades
